Ringo Starr Knighted by Prince William

On March 20, Prince William bestowed the honor of knighthood on former Beatle Ringo Starr, a member of Local 47 (Los Angeles, CA), at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace. The designation comes 53 years after all of the Fab Four were awarded MBE (the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, a grade of British chivalry) in October 1965.

When asked whether he wanted to be known as Sir Ringo, the musician, whose real name is Richard Starkey, told reporters: “I don’t know yet. It’s new and I don’t know how you use it properly.”

Fellow Beatle Paul McCartney was knighted in 1997. Other musical knights are Elton John, Rod Stewart, and Mick Jagger.
