Walmart Stops Sale of Controversial Ts

Walmart has stopped selling a controversial T-shirt urging violence against journalists, which was available through its website, at the request of the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA).

The tee read: “Rope. Tree. Journalist. SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED.”

The T-shirts “simply inflame” the passions of people who don’t like or understand the media, explains RTDNA Executive Director Dan Shelley. “At worst, they openly encourage violence against journalists. We believe they are particularly inflammatory within the context of today’s vitriolic political and ideological environment.”

According to US Press Freedom Tracker, nearly three dozen journalists have been assaulted in 2017, while the Committee to Protect Journalists shows that at least 48 journalists have so far been killed in other countries this year.

Corporations Respond to Young

Neil Young’s newest album The Monsanto Years takes direct aim at corporations like Monsanto, Starbucks, Walmart, and Chevron. In the interest of presenting both sides of the story, Billboard asked the companies to comment on the Local 47 (Los Angeles, CA) on the lyrics to musician’s song “A Rock Star Bucks a Coffee Shop.” Read the hilarious results and watch the video for the song.

Walmart Reports Sales Woes

A leaked internal Walmart memo urged store managers to improve lagging sales over the past 18 months by keeping shelves stocked, among other tips. However, the memo also ignores two of the more obvious solutions to the chain’s woes: giving workers adequate hours and paying them a living wage of $15 per hour.

“Understaffing, from the sales floor to the front end, has greatly affected the store,” says Janet Sparks, a member of the OUR Walmart campaign seeking to improve wages and working conditions. Substantial staffing cuts have taken place since the start of 2010 with hours cut so thin they are unable to complete the necessary work.
