After more than five years of organizing and negotiating, security guards working for tech giants like Facebook and Google just ratified their first union contract. The members of SEIU United Service Workers West will see an hourly wage increase of up to $1.20 by January, improved healthcare, and vacation plan and paid holidays. While median salaries at tech companies is around $200,000 a year, their security guards are contract workers who make $25,000 to $30,000 a year. Some were homeless or worked second jobs to make ends meet.
