Report Shows Benefits of Paid Sick Days

Eighteen months after Connecticut became the first state to require employers to provide paid sick days, a survey from researchers at the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) showed the law has had minimal effects on businesses, and has led to little or no increase in costs. Among the other findings of the study, employee turnover was reduced by 3.3%; illness was spread 14.8% less often; productivity increased 14.9%; plus morale, motivation, and loyalty were increased. Also, most employers now say they are either “very supportive” (39.5%) or “somewhat supportive” (37%) of the law.
